Thanks to the opening policy from the Vietnamese government, there are now more and more foreigners coming to the country for investment. It also means that they will have to obtain a typical certificate called “Vietnam investor visa” instead of the normal tourist or business visa as we regularly know. What is Vietnam Investor Visa

Vietnam investor visa, according to the Law No 51/2019/QH14 on the Entry, Exit, Transit through, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam, is a type of visa issued to those who come to the country for investment, or for lawyers practicing in Vietnam.

The investor visa is signaled ĐT, and is divided into 4 smaller categories which are ĐT1, ĐT2, ĐT3, ĐT4 which is a good base to obtain a DT temporary residence card valid for up to 10 years.

How to Get Vietnam Investor Visa

Expats can apply for a Vietnam investor visa in Vietnam or in a foreign country. The required documents are varied depending on where the application is submitted, therefore have a closer look at the guide as follows.

2.1. For obtaining Vietnam investor visa in Vietnam

  • Original passport (at least 6 months in validity);
  • Certified copy of Business Registration Certificate, or Certificate of Investment Registration;
  • Certificate of seal specimen registration or a notice on the publication of information on seal specimen of the enterprise on the national enterprise registration portal;
  • Registration form for the seal and signature of the legal representative of the enterprise operating in Vietnam (Form NA16);
  • Application form for Vietnam visa, Vietnam visa extension, extension of stay (Form NA5);
  • Registration form for temporary residence;

When all the documents are ready, applicants submit at the Vietnam Immigration Department in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, or Danang for processing. The working time is about 5 business days from the time full papers are received.

2.2. For obtaining Vietnam investor visa in a foreign country

2.2.2. Application at the Vietnam Embassy/ Consulate

Apart from documents for applying for a visa within Vietnam, foreigners will have to add a proof of legal status as prescribed by Vietnam’s law. Then come to the office of the Vietnam Embassy/ Consulate which is convenient for you for submission. The working time is about 5 – business days from the time full papers are received.

2.2.3 Application for a Vietnam visa on arrival

The required documents are the same as you apply at the Vietnam Embassy/ Consulate, however, they are prepared by your company’s staff in Vietnam, not you.

The documents are also submitted and processed at the Vietnam Immigration Department, but a Vietnam visa approval letter will be issued to your staff. The staff will then scan the letter and send it to you via email for boarding to Vietnam.

Please be noted that via this method, you will have to enter Vietnam by air as you will have your Vietnam visa stamped on the original passport at Vietnam international airports.
